Promises promises ...

We've got one essay coming down the pike! Due date Monday.

GSE update

Last Wednesday, it was announced at the Rotary Club of Youngstown's annual steak fry that I had been selected to lead a team of young non-Rotarian professionals (Age25-40) to the Philippines from March 17, 2011 to April 18, 2011. Our Rotary Intenational District 6650 is paired with RI District 3820 in the Philippines.

This Rotary International Foundation program, launched in 1965, is designed to develop professional and leadership skills among young adults in order to prepare them to better address the needs of their communities in an increasingly global workplace. It's quite an honor to have been selected.

Since the announcement, I have been soliciting for team members through the organizations with which I am involved and other networks. We've had to postpone the interview date until mid October. We have one application from the Youngstown, Ohio that my club will sponsor, and possibly two more from the Canton area.

I had an opportunity to speak with our Governors about the progress being made to collect a Philippines team. So far we had three candidates in the mix -- with incomplete applications. The goal is to have four with a backup. This is a 4-6 week exchange. That seems to be the biggest challenge. How many young professionals can take that much time off with the blessing of a supervisor?

One the other side ... of the ocean ... there are 28 candidates chomping at the bit to come to NE Ohio!
